The amazing Boston Dynamics continues to push boundaries. In Chapter 1 I talk about robots that run faster than the fastest humans. Although not out in the wild yet, (check out the boom that is attached to robo-Cheetah still), it is moving well beyond human sprinting speed, even that of Usain Bolt. As DARPA talks about these robots running about in the natural world, helping in disaster rescue, I wonder just how this speed is of particular use in disaster rescue. Indeed, I see an even greater applicability in hostile environments- the obvious application that goes unmentioned, so far.
